To skillfully work with prana, you have to soothe the nerves to ease any tension before your practice. Restorative asanas teach you to practice slowly and with care. Supine pranayama helps you practice without strain. Seated technique requires stable asana as its base, and mudras and bandhas as its support. With brain passive and lungs active, forcing nothing, breath is the ultimate emancipation.

Pranayama Intensive - 4 weeks
Fridays: 6pm-9pm, January 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th

Comfortable posture is a prerequisite for pranayama. This series of classes will show you sequences that can charge you with vitality and alertness or calm and tranquilize you with quietness. The marma points of Yoga Nidra will be taught to deepen relaxation and visualization skills. Both supine and seated breath work will be explained, demonstrated, instructed, observed and corrected. UIjjayi/Viloma/Anuloma, and Pratiloma pranayamas will be taught.

Gabriel Halpern holds a BA in Philosophy, an MA in Health Psychology, and has been on the faculty at De Paul University for 24 years. Trained at the Iyengar Yoga Institutes in San Francisco and Pune, India, Halpern has practiced has practiced yoga since 1970, giving workshops nationally. He is the founder and has been the director of the Yoga Circle, in Chicago, since 1985. For more than twenty years he has also been harvesting his 42 years of experience with Hindu Gurus, Buddhist Monks, Hasidic, Rabbis, Christian Anchorites, Sufi Shaykhs, Native American Shamans and Alchemists of all persuasions.
